YOUTH UNDER CONTROL

YOUTH UNDER CONTROL is another great band from Arizona who, like LAST OPTlON and DESECRATION, stand strong for what they believe in. Which in this case, is straignt-edge. Here's an interview with Jason, YUC’s guitarist.
THREATENING SOCIETY: Who's in the band?
JASON: Jim W. (I6) vocals, Jason (I8) guitar, Eric (15) drums, Jim P. (I9) bass (Although we just kicked him out. We are working in a new bass player.), AleX (16) guitar. We've had many line-ups in the last year and a half, but this one has done the most and is the most permanent. We have been together with this line-up since December, 1986.
TS: Is this the first band for all of you?
J: Yes, except Alex played guitar for a band called CHOICE OF DIRECTION.
TS: How long have you seen playing guitar?
J: Three years.
TS: Who writes the music and lyrics?
J: Everyone adds to it, out mostly it's Jason, Jim W., and Alex.
TS: Who are your influences?
J: DYS, SSD, GREY MATTER (now defunct - Ed.), BACK TO BACK, INSTED, LAST OPTION, N.Y.C. MAYHEM and SLUGGO. Anything that has feeling to it.
TS: how would you describe your sound?
J: I dunno ... mosh!
TS: Any plans for a demo?
J: Well, we have a ten song demo called “Live and Learn". The tape is getting kind of old, but our second demo will be much better. It will be out in a month or two.
TS: I know you're straight-edge. How do you feel about those who aren't?
J: Yeah, we're all straight-edge, but that is everyone’s individual choice. We're not going to out anyone down, we give our opinion, and they have theirs. A lot of our good friends drink, But that's their choice. Just don't put us down ‘cause we’re straight, because we don’t put you down if you’re not.
TS: Do you consider yourselves a positive band?
J: Well, we always try to Iook toward the positive side of a situation.
TS: Do you believe in anarchy?
J: I don't think humanity is ready to handle the idea. But I think it could work in time.
TS: How many shows have you played? Has the reaction been good? J: We've played about ten or so. The last few shows have been great!
TS: What's your scene like?
J: The best bancs are DESECRATION, S.K.O.W.D.T., and LAST OPTION. We’re putting on our own shows, so they’re cheap. Also a note to bands: DO NOT play Prizms! It’s a total capitalistic club!
TS: Is unity in the scene possible?
J: Yes, but there’s always a few bad apples. But you have to stand against them. Lately, there has been the white pride skins in Mesa, AZ, and that pushes us a step too far. So we'll see what happens.
TS; What are your future plans?
J: We're playing m Los Angeles on July 24. We also want to put out an EP as soon as we find a label. We would like to tour next summer, possibly over Christmas.
TS: What merchandise do you have available?
J: We're sold out of the first demo. Two-sided shirts are $4 ppd. Stickers and info are free.
TS: Any last words?
J: Stay true to all your choices! Back to back, bros!
